Etsy Shopping Excursion #2: Cocktail Rings For The Lady Libertine

Following up on our piece from earlier this month, here’s another key element of the lady libertine’s household that can be found on Etsy:

Cocktail Rings
$20-40; nominal shipping
Cocktail rings or “right hand” rings first made their appearance on the flaunted fingers of wealthy women in Prohibition Era speakeasies. Cocktail rings offered dazzling coordinates to crystal glasses and silver flasks and offered a lushness that contrasted with the new streamlined dresses that appeared in the flapper era. The large bright stones ensured that the rings would be noticed even in the most dimly lit of spaces. In addition to solitaires, later midcentury designs often used sprays of pearls and rhinestones that once again contrasted, with the slim fitting and sculptural lines of the little black or lame dress. Of course, the wearer’s boldness in jewelry no doubt suggested boldness in other areas as well….

Note: Etsy also sells the real deal, but for genuine stones, think $700-$1000.

Also note: As with other Etsy/eBay finds, some sellers have a very loose definition of the word “vintage”. Caveat emptor, you know.
