Cocktails For This Weekend’s BCS National Championship

If you’re a fan of either LSU or Alabama, you know all too well that this weekend is the BCS National Championship.

And if you live in New Orleans, you know all too well that a sporting event isn’t a sporting event without a signature cocktail.

In other parts of the country, beer may be fine and dandy for tailgating parties, but not in New Orleans — the city that many claim is the home of the cocktail. And so, bartenders at boites across town have been hard at work, mixing up drinks of purple and red to woo thirsty football fans.

Our fave is probably the “Les is More” (which is a pretty clever title, if you know a little about this weekend’s matchup). It was dreamed up by Lu Brow at the Swizzle Stick bar, on the ground floor of the Lowe’s Hotel, and it involves citrus vodka, lemon juice, and honey. It also features an all-too-rare appearance of creme de violette, which is sublime in small doses. (Overdo it, though, and your mouth will taste like the inside of grandma’s handbag for weeks.)
